Descendants of Jacob "Jake" Ender, Jr.

First Generation

1. Jacob "Jake" Ender, Jr. (Jacob "Jake", Anton Wenzlen)

Born June 17, 1858[3], [4] in Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota, and died September 15, 1908 in Nelson, Buffalo Co., Wisconsin. Jacob's son's death certificate notes that his father's birthplace was Dubuque, Iowa. Jacob's older siblings were born in Dubuque, but it is likely Jacob, Sr. and family were moved to Minnesota by the time Jacob, Jr. was born. Buried in St. Felix Cemetery, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota. Lived in Nelson, Wisconsin. Operated the ferry at Wabasha for many years. Number of sons worked on the Milwaukee road between Eau Claire and Wabasha.

He married Jessie Viola Smith April 18, 1888 in Durand, Pepin Co., Wisconsin,[11],[1] daughter of Oscar Smith and Charlotte Townsend. She was born June 14, 1863[5],[6], [7],[8] in Olmstead Co., Minnesota, and died November 16, 1949 in Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota[2],[9], [10]. Buried November 18, 1949, Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Wabasha Co., Minnesota. Cause of Death: Carcinoma of Thyroid, Chronic Nephritis, Arteriosclerotic Heart Disease.[10] Residence: Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota.

Note: An earlier version of this history included another daughter, Sylvia M. Ender, born in 1882. Sylvia was not the daughter of Jacob Ender and Jessie Smith; she was Sylvia May White, b. 8 Apr 1881 in Cane Hill, Washington Co., Arkansas, daughter of Jessie V. Smith and Riley White.[12], [14], [15] Sylvia d. March 20, 1965, Everett, Snohomish Co., Washington.[16]

She first married Francis McKeefery on 8 Apr 1901 in Wabasha Co., Minnesota.[13] They later divorced.

She second married James C. Little on 1 Feb 1913 in Spokane, Spokane Co., Washington.[14]

She third married Edgar Carl Bardin on 2 Dec 1950 in Missoula, Missoula Co., Montana.[15]. Edgar b. November 13, 1879, Iowa; d. February 9, 1960, Cascade Co., Montana.[17] ,[18],[19] ,[20],[21]

Sylvia came back to Wabasha, Minnesota and took care of her mother during the 1940s.

 

Second Generation

2. Walter M. Ender (Jacob "Jake" Jr., Jacob "Jake", Anton Wenzlen)

Born November 9, 1889, St. Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota;[22] ,[23],[24] d. June 26, 1960, buried June 28, 1960, Wood National Cemetery, Plot 38 17 5, Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co. Served in the US military in WWI. Lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the time of his mother's death.

Walter m. Bernice Koskey/Koolkowka, April 24, 1922. Walter's name is spelled Andrews in marriage index. Bernice's parents were John Anthony Koskey/Koolkowska and Mary Schultz.

Walter m. Elsie L. Myers. Elsie b. 1894 in Wisconsin. Elsie is listed on the 1930 census as Walter's wife; Bernice either died or they divorced before 1930.[24] [Editor's note: I could not find records for either of Walter's marriages. The 1930 census states Elsie's age as 36, and age at marriage as 26, so it's possible Walter was only married to Elsie.]

 

3. Ruth Arville Ender (Jacob "Jake" Jr., Jacob "Jake", Anton Wenzlen)

Ruth b. 1891,[25] ,[26],[27] Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota; d. October 15, 1931, Whitefish, Flathead Co., Montana. In June 1915 Ruth visited relatives in Whitefish, Montana. In 1917 went to Whitefish, Montana and obtained employment in the Great Northern railroad offices. Member of the Rebekah Masonic lodge and Order of Eastern Star. Buried in Whitefish cemetery.

Ruth m. John G. Hogan Abt 1917. John b. Abt 1888 in Michigan, d. August 20, 1947 in Whitefish, Flathead Co., Montana.[26] ,[27],[28] Buried in Whitefish Cemetery. John was a locomotive engineer.

Ruth and John had the following child:

4. Earl Edwin Ender (Jacob "Jake" Jr., Jacob "Jake", Anton Wenzlen)

Earl was born December 2, 1893 in Minnesota[29], and died July 20, 1966 in Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota[30] . Buried in Riverview Cemetery, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota.[31],[32],[33]

Earl married Edith Wihelminia Reichenbach Bef. 1921, daughter of Paul Reichenbach and Anna Damm. She was born April 8, 1898 in Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota, and died November 1, 1939 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota[34]. Burial: November 4, 1939, Riverview Cemetery, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota. Cause of Death: Nephritis (Suppression of Kidney). Medical Information: Albuminuria (2 years); Right systic orary (5 years). Operation: Removal of right orary and tube (cystic) appendix October 21, 1939. Occupation: Bookkeeper in a hardware store.[35]

Earl and Edith has the following child:

Medical Information: Adenocarcinoma of Colon with Lung Metastases; Hx of Parathyroid Adenoma renal stones. Occupation: Owner of County Cablevison Company. Residence: 1976, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota.[37]

 

5. Raymond Lyle "Ray" Ender (Jacob "Jake" Jr., Jacob "Jake", Anton Wenzlen)

Ray was born 21 November 1895[38],[39],[40],[41] in Nelson, Buffalo Co., Wisconsin, and died 2 Feb 1963 in Dunn Co., Wisconsin.[42] Ray Ender's name is on the Eau Claire County site where he is listed on the "Honor Roll of Men & Women Who Served in WWII of Eau Claire, WI" taken from "The Rivers Flow On" by Lois Barland, pages 225 to 237.

Ray married Lucille Schwahn on 6 Oct 1919.[43]

 

6. Mary Agnes "Dolly" Ender (Jacob "Jake" Jr., Jacob "Jake", Anton Wenzlen)

Mary was born August 28, 1897, Minnesota;[43],[44] d. December 14, 1965, Wabasha Co., Minnesota.[45] Cause of Death: Carcinoma of Esophagus. Residence: 1965, 326 Main St., West, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota. Burial: December 15, 1965, St. Felix Catholic Cemetery, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota.

She married Bernard John "Ben" Passe October 15, 1918 in Winona, Winona Co., Minnesota, son of Johann Passe and Maria Schuth. He was born April 8, 1890 in Minnesota,[46],[44],[47] and died October 20, 1970. Burial: St. Felix Catholic Cemetery, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota.

Roy was born July 15, 1898, Minnesota[5],[7],[8],[50]; d. December 12, 1970, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota [51]. Lived in Minneapolis at time of mother's death.

 

8. Harold "Harry" Ender (Jacob "Jake" Jr., Jacob "Jake", Anton Wenzlen)

Harry was born February 13, 1906, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota[6],[7],[8] and died December 10, 1935, Wabasha, Wabasha Co., Minnesota 52. Burial: December 14, 1935, Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Wabasha Co., Minnesota. Cause of Death: Myocardiris. Medical Information: Influenza. Harry married Evelyn Loechler. They later divorced.
